Born in Elizabeth City, North Carolina
L. Douglas Waldorf was born 22 February 1927 to Leslie D. Waldorf, Sr., "Strut", and Mary Booker Waldorf. Doug Waldorf was Les and Mary Waldorf's 4th child, third son, their oldest son, Leslie Laverne Waldorf, having died at age 6 months of what we now call Sudden Infant Death Syndrome. Doug Waldorf's older siblings were his sister, Maisie, and his brother, Wilson, lovingly called by the nickname "Buddy" by the family throughout his life. Also residing in the home during Doug's life were his paternal grandparents, Watson Laverne Waldorf and, his wife, Margaret Douglas Waldorf.
Margaret Douglas Waldorf was a God-fearing woman, who loved her Savior, and knew His word and teachings from the Holy Bible. Margaret Douglas Waldorf would often sit reading from her Bible during the day, and when young Doug Waldorf would get into ill favor with his older siblings and come crying to his grandmother, or "Nannie Waldorf" as she was lovingly called by her family, "Nannie Waldorf" would pull little Doug up on her lap and read to him from her Bible.
The Waldorf family would also clear away the supper dishes at night and sit around the kitchen table by the light of an oil lamp (now resting proudly on the mantle in Doug Waldorf's home) and "Nannie Waldorf" would read her Bible to her family. Margaret Douglas Waldorf knew from what she read in her Bible, (the King James Version) that the Church of Jesus Christ as He set it up while here on this earth in the flesh, was to be found somewhere on the earth, but search as she did, by going from denomination to denomination, and congregation to congregation, she could not find the true Church of Jesus Christ. "Nannie Waldorf" taught young Doug as she read to him from her Bible while he sat upon her lap or at night around the family table, what he should look for as Doug continued "Nannie's" search for the true church of Jesus Christ upon the earth. "Nannie Waldorf" went to her grave looking for the true Church of Jesus Christ, but her son, Leslie D. "Strut" Waldorf, and her grandson, Doug Waldorf, continued her search.
It was from this intense and loving teaching of the Holy Bible that Doug Waldorf received from his grandmother, "Nannie Waldorf" - Margaret Douglas Waldorf - that Doug Waldorf received the testimony of the Church of Jesus Christ as contained in the Holy Bible, and the keys of knowledge from the sriptures to aid Doug in his search to find and recognize the true church of Jesus Christ when he found it.
(More of the testimony and story of Margaret Douglas Waldorf will soon be available on
the Fireside Talk "Help from Beyond the Veil".)
